PowerJam notes from 11/8/09

COOPERATION is the virtue for November in PowerJAM! Wouldn't we all like our kids to cooperate a little more...with homework, cleaning their rooms, behaving, etc.

This month, we are focusing on cooperating with others, to work together to do more than you can do alone.

Challenge your kids this week to look for ways to help somebody succeed. Just like Aaron and Hur helped Moses in Exodus 17:8-13.

Use these questions to start some conversations in your family this week:
  • What are some things that get in the way of us helping others succeed? (Our selfish motives, jealousy, etc.)
  • Why do you think it is important to God for us to cooperate and help others succeed?

Monthly Memory Verse: “Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do.” Ecclesiastes 4:9, NIrV

Parenting Challenges

Where's the manual? Everything else comes with an instruction book. Yes we are supposed to look to the Bible, but I have yet to find the chapter that tells me what to do when my child has a tantrum in the grocery store because I would not buy him his favorite candy bar! Reminding him to 'honor his mother' just didn't seem to work. Often on this parenting journey, we have to learn as we go. And what's worse...what works for one child does not necessarily work for another!

We're a few weeks into school now and, for the most part, we've figured out the homework routine. But we're still way behind on getting everyone to pick up after themselves. Toys, cups, shoes, towels...you name it, they've left it all over the house. I even put a sign on the family room door. Didn't work. Yelling "I am not your maid" has not seemed to help either. It does makes me feel better though...for about 2 seconds.

How about you? What is your biggest parenting challenge? What are you struggling with?

homework? attitudes? bed time? sibling rivalry?

What is making you pull your hair out???
